As part of Light Night this Friday we will be looking back at one of the most spectacular and moving events we’ve been privileged to be a part of, City of Light, City of Sanctuary. Join us and The Lantern Company at 5pm as we release the soundtrack to the installation, reminding us all what home, belonging and cities mean to us now.

City of Light, City of Sanctuary was an ambitious public art project building a floating city of light on Sefton Park Boating Lake in February 2019, attracting over 60,000 visitors. Hundreds of lantern buildings were constructed creating a glowing cityscape – from shelters, houses and blocks of flats to warehouses and iconic buildings from Liverpool and around the world. Over a thousand Liverpool residents of all ages (both newly arrived and long established) were engaged with the making of the work not only to build the city but to produce an original soundscape with personal stories, poetry and memories.

The work was a response to issues of displacement affecting many people and communities in the world then and now, during these unprecedented times we are taking this opportunity to reflect on and reimagine the importance of what are homes and cities means for us and others during this global crisis.

An original soundscape with personal stories, poetry and memories from hundreds of Liverpool residents.

Composer: Roma Yagnik.

Sound Design/voices mix: Dan Fox

Writers/poets: Jeff Young, Cheryl Martin, Ash Nugent, Lizzie Nunnery, Amina Atiq, Ginni Manning, Addae Gaskin, Trish McKeon.
