Review: Lowborn by Kerry Hudson Book Launch

By Stephanie Braithwaite

The Liverpool-launch of Kerry Hudson’s new book Lowborn was a festival highlight for me. The book splits its time between 80s Britain and today, all with the objective of exposing how little we’ve moved forward when it comes to eradicating poverty in the UK. The event was moving, familiar but mostly hopeful. It felt like many of us in that room had been waiting for a book like Lowborn to arrive, and now that it has there is hope that many more accounts of what it’s really like to be poor will follow suit.
