How Not to Be a Boy
Blog Post by Susan Haniford
I enjoyed taking part in Wowfest both as a writer and volunteer with the evening of May 26th being the crowning moment. Not because it was an important date in the football calendar, but because comedian and writer Robert Webb was in town promoting his book ‘How Not to be a Boy’.
It was a night of firsts: being in the characterful and renowned Black-E, and meeting my comic hero. Interviewer Jordan Stephens and Webb entertained a full house with humorous and lively dialogue. Webb revealed, via readings from his book and candid comments, highlights, lowlights and insights about his life as boy and man.
Afterwards the lengthy queue to buy his book was testament to a successful evening. Webb was polite and friendly, smiled with me for a photo, shook my hand, and signed my copy of his book which I finished in a couple of days. It is an intelligent, articulate and touching memoir which made me laugh out loud and cry too. Webb writes very well - I highly recommend it.
