What's Your World Pride Story Project Launch
By Alice Mason
Held at Siren Cafe, the What's Your World Pride Story project launch was an intimate affair. Joan Burnett from Pride introduced the evening, and past participants of the What's Your Pride Story; Brian Wharton and Joe Lavelle performed some of their published work from the book, available here to buy. Lyndsay Price, founder of Rhymes and Records, and Ciarán Hodgers - Project Manager at WoW also performed at the launch night. The event marked the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality, proving that although there have been some successes for the LGBT+ community, there is still a long way to go, but we must help voices from marginalised communities get heard and represented.
What's Your World Pride Story? aims to support the integration of LGBT people from the wider community in discussing their own personal experiences and issues they have faced being LGBT here in the UK, and internationally. The course will also aim to create a supportive environment for the participants to share their stories. Overall, it was a wonderful launch night with Emma Hulme further discussing the aims of the project.
